For elementary students completing the Goblin build, students learn critical lessons in areas such as tool use and safety, effective communication, time management, critical thinking, and teamwork.
Goblin participants learn foundational concepts necessary for understanding the purpose and structure of technical schematic layouts through the build process, basics of aerodynamics through the body design, and the general nature of team project completion.
At this level, the teacher is giving close supervision and direction for each new learning set, as is developmentally appropriate. The focus of the Goblin build is on teaching students to work collaboratively and understand foundational concepts in STEM.
The files below can give you a look into what our students are being asked to complete during the Greenpower journey.
All Greenpower USA Goblin events consist of four scored (maximum of 100 points each) categories:
For more information on the individual events, please check out our Goblin Race Sessions page.
Presentation Component
At each Greenpower USA Goblin event, a rubric is given to all registered teams that outlines the requirements that will be judged for that specific event. Tri-Fold Boards, Interviews, and PowerPoints are just a few examples of presentation formats used at events.
Race Components
All teams complete three racing events on race day. Each team can complete the Drag Race, Slalom Race, and Circuit Race at least three times. The fastest completed time for each team is then recorded and used in the Overall Scoring. First Place gets 100 points, Second Place receives 95 points, Third Place gets 90 points, and so on.
Overall Score
The Overall Score for each team is the combined total of the four scored categories.
